How to Apply for SSB (and Redeem)
You apply for Singapore Savings Bonds through DBS/POSB, OCBC or UOB (ATM or internet/mobile banking) with cash, or through your SRS operator. Applications open at 6pm on the first business day of the month and close at 9pm on the fourth-last business day. Bonds are issued on the first business day of the next month, and you can redeem in any month.
Applying for a Singapore Savings Bond (SSB) takes a few minutes through your bank. The process is the same every month, and the main thing to get right is the timing of the monthly window. If you are new to SSBs, start with Singapore Savings Bonds explained.
What you need first
- A bank account with DBS/POSB, OCBC or UOB.
- An individual CDP Securities account (joint accounts can’t hold SSBs) with direct crediting of payments: the application is debited from the bank account you apply with, while interest and redemptions go to your CDP-linked account.
- For an SRS application, an SRS account with your SRS operator bank.
Applying with cash — step by step
- During the application window, log in to your bank’s internet or mobile banking, or use a bank ATM.
- Find the Singapore Savings Bonds / SGS application option.
- Enter the amount — minimum S$500, in multiples of S$500 — up to the S$200,000 per-person cap across all your SSBs.
- Confirm. The bank charges a transaction fee of about S$2.
Applying with SRS
If you want to use SRS funds, apply through the bank that holds your SRS account (internet banking). Your SRS funds are earmarked when you apply, and interest and redemptions go back to your SRS account.
The monthly timeline
| Step | When |
|---|---|
| Issue details announced | 1st business day of the month |
| Applications open | 6pm, 1st business day |
| Applications close | 9pm, 4th-last business day |
| Allotment results | 3rd-last business day of the month |
| Bond issued | 1st business day of the next month |

If an issue is oversubscribed, MAS does not simply take the largest bids — it allots bonds to spread them as widely as possible, so you may receive less than you applied for. Un-allotted cash is refunded (and earmarked SRS funds released), normally by the next business day after allotment.
Redeeming
You can redeem in any month, including the month of issue, during the redemption window (which mirrors the application window). You receive your principal plus accrued interest by the second business day of the following month, with no penalty. Each redemption request costs S$2 (incl. GST). If you hold several bonds, you can redeem them individually.
